Readers know I try to keep you up-to-date on roads in the area because I know how important that has been/is/continues to be to our community!

Earlier this month, I shared highway closure updates on my political Facebook page

Now, here are additional updates from WLTX for the days ahead. Please be aware.
CHAPIN, S.C. — Parts of Interstate 26 will see more lane closures in the coming days as part of the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s work to widen the road. A 16-mile segment is affected, from north of Columbia to Chapin.

Most importantly, I’ve been asked “when will all this be completed?” Projects of this size certainly can have delays; but here is what I received from our 2nd Congressional District DOT Commissioner, Bill Dukes, when I followed up yesterday. As I learn more, I will certainly pass along.

Peak Interchange – Fully open
* Fall 2024
* Will require a weekend closure of Eastbound/Westbound off ramps

Chapin Interchange (new ramps):
* Eastbound ramps: early summer
* Westbound off ramp: late fall

Eastbound trafic off of the rough and patchy alignment: mid-summer

Eastbound Segment 1 (MM97-110) all open:
* Open to 3 lanes by early summer

Westbound Segment 1 all open”
* When Segment 2 (MM 91-97) lanes are opened up (towards the end of the year)
