NathansNews readers and Community Update regulars, know I’ve written many times about HOW LONG this project is taking Richland County to deliver to us. This week I asked for another update and again offered my services to the county should they need help at the state level.

Subject: Broad River Road Widening Project

Good afternoon Representative Ballentine,

The project is in land acquisition with the following progress:

There are a total of 118 Tracts of land requiring R/W services.

There have been 79 offers made, 29 settled, 23 turned-in for approval of documents.
So far, 18 ROW tracts have been paid ( sent out certified mail). Owners should be getting checks via certified mail shortly.

Nine tracts have been identified for condemnation. The circumstances range from interstate properties, heirs properties or requests from attorneys to proceed to condemnation.

Operationally:

Ted conducted a meeting with Mid Carolina Electric Co-op today where they finalized the concept plan for the early utility move. A LIDAR study will be conducted in the next two weeks to further the pole design and refine the early move plan. The final design plan should be finished in the next month or so, with a tentative timeline for the early utility move in October 2024.

We are finalizing the work plan for the signal we plan on installing at the intersection of Farming Creek and Broad River. Ted plans on proceeding with permitting next week (DHEC NOI and Richland land disturbance).

The next meeting with SCDOT will include Lori Campbell to finalize everything regarding the signal, then we will prep the bid package for the signal install. Should happen in the next month or so.
