This week was what is commonly known as “Budget Week”. It’s when the Budget prepared by the House Ways and Means Committee is debated by the full House.

A summary of what was passed can be seen here.

This budget now goes to the Senate, where they will change/debate, and then send back to the House in a few weeks and then the two bodies will appoint three conferees to represent their respective bodies in Conference Committee where the differences will be worked on until one budget will be presented to both bodies to approve or reject.

The budget must pass by June 30th (or a continuing resolution must pass) in order for the state to meet our obligations.

Passing a budget is one of, if not THE, most important responsibility of elected officials.
