I first attended 20 years ago and have the same feelings every time I’m there.
While I have never worn the uniform, my father was a combat vet in Vietnam and my grandparents served in World War II.
They were fortunate to come home whole. Many veterans do not. Some carry wounds (internal and external) that never heal.
Many do not make it home. Many pay the ultimate sacrifice.
Today we again recognized, remembered, and honored those individuals and their families.
As I always share at this event, please remember on of our one today: Marine Corporal David Weimortz , graduate of Dutch Fork High School. His mother and sister still live in our community and I think of both of them today, as well as the man who died 20 years ago, serving our country, protecting our freedoms, and giving his life for all.
