Got some calls about the Koon Road Bridge Closing signs that were posted last week.

SCDOT informs me they will close the bridge for two weeks (December 6th thru December 17th) while some work is being done on a water line.

The bigger news for y’all to know is that the bridge will be closed for SIX MONTHS starting in February 2022 as it is replaced as part of major overhaul by the SCDOT in our community. For more on that, click here.

Obviously, road improvements bring their own challenges – so please understand for progress to happen, we will have some more pain in the year(s) ahead.

There is a lot of work happening in and around Chapin, Irmo, on up to “Malfunction Junction” in the present and in the years ahead!

Why is SCDOT not adding some new entrance and exit ramps where new bridges are being built? All the equipment is in place, the dirt is available to construct the ramps and the right-of-way at each intersection has already been approved. Mt. Vernon Church Road is a great example. Heavy morning and evening traffic, HWY 76 and HWY 176 are close to the interstate, and 3 District Five Schools are at the intersection of 176 and Mt Vernon Church Road. This would alleviate so much traffic at the Peak Exit.
Thank you
