This past Sunday, Karen and I were teaching our 2nd graders at Riverland Hills Baptist Church. The message was “Gratitude”. I ran across this quote that made me think more about that word and what one of the other teachers shared.
“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?” ~William A. Ward
While every parent tries to instill manners in their children (“Yes, sir”, “Yes, ma’am”, “Please” and “Thank You”); many times we forget to take time to say a simple thanks to our friends, colleagues, neighbors and family members.
Karen and I are fortunate to have both sets of parents less than an hour and a half from Chapin. We’ll get to spend time with them this Thursday, like many families across the state and country spending time together. I’m thankful for that.
I’m also very thankful for the many blessings God has given me in my 40 years and I need to remember to not only thank Him more but also thank those in my life that I’m fortunate to have help me everyday.
My children know the answer when I ask them “What’s Daddy’s favorite job?” (“Being our Daddy”). They also know what Daddy’s other favorite job is too – representing the Irmo/Chapin/Ballentine/Dutch Fork community in the South Carolina State House.
Seven years ago you gave me the honor to serve you and I never forget that privilege. If I haven’t said it enough – THANKS! Thank you for giving me a chance to work hard for our area and our state.
Karen and I wish each of you a very safe, Happy Thanksgiving this year with friends and family! We look forward to seeing you around town soon!
