Can’t believe its been just over 4 years since The Link in Ballentine opened it’s doors to our community.

Since that time thousands of guests have walked in the doors and I’m pleased to share some good news with you tonight! Our community is one step closer to having a new library facility to better meet the needs of our neighbors in the area.

On February 13, the Richland County Public Library’s board approved the purchase of approximately seven acres of land at 1200 Dutch Fork Road. The purchase, an initial cost of $653,369, is covered through capital funds provided by Richland County.

The current location, at 1321 Dutch Fork Rd., opened in as RCPL’s first step of its 10 year plan to address the needs of residents throughout Richland County. The Ballentine space was leased to allow time to establish services in the area, find adequate land and secure funding. The library is working hard to obtain the necessary capital funds needed to build a new library.

Since 2006, residents have clearly shown they need and want a library. Last year alone, the Ballentine library was visited more than 97,000 times and checked out more than 195,000 items.

As I learn more in the upcoming months, I’ll be sure to pass along to you!
