Tonight I told JC and Emma “Daddy’s done with the State House until January!” They were excited; but then Emma quickly asked “What about Wells Fargo ?” Kids. Gotta love ’em!
Today we wrapped up the first year of the 119th General Assembly by actually having very limited debate on a compromise plan for our state’s new 7th Congressional District.
Earlier in the day, I joined a few other colleagues as part of the House GOP Caucus Tax Study Advisory Committee that will be meeting over the next several months to work towards legislation that will take a comprehensive approach at changing our state’s tax structure. I told our chairman ( Rep. Tommy Stringer – Greenville ) “If we (the committee, lawmakers) have the courage and intelligence that’s needed for this, we can truly change our tax system for the better.” More on that in the coming days and weeks here on Nathan’s News.
For now, I want to step away for a few days. Recharge the battery and then I’ll come back with an August COMMUNITY UPDATE, a recap the budget from this year, a recap this past session, and share the results from this year’s legislative survey that several members of the community returned.
In a few weeks (August 16th), I hope to see many of you at a regular event I’ve hosted since being elected in 2004. Our COMMUNITY COOKOUT. I’m grateful both the Irmo Chamber and Chapin Chamber cleared their events calendar so everyone will have the opportunity to mingle with several statewide office holders and local elected officials as well! Thanks for checking in. Look for new updates next Monday!
