Bruce, the COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment for state retirees) veto was a very easy one to override.

I, along with a few others, worked to REMOVE the COLA portion that went to Elected Officials. This (elected officials COLA) was not part of the Task Force's recommendation for the bill but somehow it was slid in. (Go figure, huh?)

After we were successful in removing that, it got real tough for us to get the bill back to the floor for a vote. (You probably read about that in The State on our my site here). FINALLY, it came to the floor and I supported it then and easily voted to override that one when it came my way.

Thanks for posting!

How did you vote on the Governor's vetoe of the 2% retirement raise? My wife, Judy, is collecting retirement from the state system and I will not like it at all if you did not vote to override his veto.

Overriding so many well thought out and essential vetos makes me wonder how so many so called conservative Republican legislators have morphed into free spending irresponsible bureaucrats. Perhaps many who changed from Democrat to Repulican never really changed at all except to increase their probability of re-election.

I feel that the governor is speaking with his head on straight, exactly the opposite of many of our legislators. We need to cut the budget in the most possible without jeopardizing our prisons and schools.
