Bobby Harrell is transparently stalking you, Rep. Ballentine -- using his real name, "Something is not right here."

Does government ever feel like high school all over again? Wow.

Talbert > thanks for understanding the importance of more transparency in state government. I'm looking forward to another constituent service night in my district.

Richard > actually sometimes there may only be a handful of the body saying "Aye" or "Nay", that's why voice votes are so un-accountable.

Something is not right here > same spin I heard from leadership today. Interesting.

From reading your post, you’re talking about two different amendments (#37 and #41) like they are the same amendment.

Amendment 37 only applies to each businesses “service licensure application fee” or basically each business. That’s only 10 cents per business…if there are say 3,500 payday lenders in the state, that’s only $350.

Amendment 41 applies to each “services transaction” or basically each loan offered. That is a big difference, and would have a cost around $400,000.

Yeah, it looks like everybody let a couple of hundred of dollars go by on a voice vote but when a different amendment was offered that spend hundreds of thousands, yeah that gets a recorded vote.

A little misleading, trying to make two separate issues into the same one.

Nathan, I wouldn’t cite your sources in such detail when you write a post in the future, when you’re wrong or misleading it makes it way too easy to prove.

Rep. Ballentine,

If I understand this correctly, the amendment passed on a voice vote, and then when a roll call vote was called for the very same amendment failed a few moments later. This is an excellent example of the benefits of government transparency.

But this leads me to ask this: if the amendment passed a voice vote and then failed a roll call vote, there must be some of your colleagues who switched their votes from yea to nay in a matter of minutes, or they did not participate in the voice vote the first time. I was wondering if you had any insight into these possibilities.

Nathan, this is good information. And it is great ammunition for the battle to get full transparency required by law. Thanks for taking the time to write this up. Kudo's to you and your staff! I sure hope you talk about this at your constituent meeting on Feb 24th at the Northwest YMCA at 7:00 pm!
